Get to know Scott Day: Qualitymark Protection’s Managing Director

15th October 2024.

Scott has now been leading Qualitymark Protection as Managing Director for several months, overseeing the company’s daily operations and ensuring that its strong reputation for providing robust consumer financial protection continues to thrive.

We had the opportunity to sit down with Scott, to get to know him on a more personal level.

Please tell us a little about yourself, your professional background and what led you to joining Qualitymark Protection?

I live in Liverpool, just a stone’s throw from Aintree Racecourse, the home of the Grand National. Married with 4 children and a massive Everton fan (which means you have to be resilient 😊) I have spent the vast majority of my career working within financial services-  Insurance and more recently Financial Advice & Investments. My last role was a very enjoyable spell in the North-East working with fantastic people delivering a unique service, but when the opportunity came to work with Qualitymark Protection and the potential to really make a difference in the sector I love, it was just too good to turn down. The reduced commute is an added bonus too!

Since joining, how would you describe working here?

It might sound cliché, but it doesn’t feel like work, I’ve loved every minute and the days seem to pass in the blink of an eye. The team have made me feel very welcome and it feels like I have been here much longer (in a good way 😊).

What do you think sets our company apart from its competitors?

There is a lack of awareness throughout this industry, and with the general public, around Insurance Backed Guarantees , Deposit Protection Insurance and what they do; but the added protection we provide by being regulated by the FCA and the security of the Financial Services Compensation Scheme cannot be understated.

We only choose to work with a select number of quality installers who must meet stringent accreditation requirements. It’s not a tick-box exercise to be accredited by us, but once you do, you will have access to an industry-leading service.

What inspired you to pursue a career in this industry?

I’ve always had a passion for cars and love driving – as a child, I only ever wanted to be 17 so I could pass my driving test! I was 18 when I first entered financial services and my first role was with ‘Royal Insurance Direct’ (now known as More Th>n) who at that time provided Car and Home insurance. Working in Sales, Customer Services, Underwriting and Claims in what back then was a new venture in direct underwriting was fascinating, and nothing like the perceptions people have of insurance. When I joined, it was a new venture meaning that I got involved in every department at some point and I loved it.

If you weren’t in this profession, what alternative career path would you have taken?

Most people tell me that I would have made a fantastic police officer.

What hobbies and interests do you have outside of work?

Work and family take up the vast majority of my time, but outside of that, I have a season ticket to the home of football, Goodison Park. Up until a few years ago, I did do quite a bit of running which I need to get back to at some point!

Describe a day in your life? (weekend or weekday)

Saturday is my favourite day after what has normally been a long week. We get up early and take my youngest son, Joseph (10) to play football.  After we get home and have some lunch, yes you’ve guessed it, if it’s a home match we are off to Goodison to watch the boys in blue. I go with my dad, my brother and either Joseph or my youngest daughter Grace. We’ve shared some special memories there that will last forever, 3 generations together. When we get home, after we eat, we sit down together and argue over what to watch on TV, which I think happens in most households!

If you could choose 3 celebrities to have dinner with, who would it be any why?

Howard Kendall, Paul Bracewell and Duncan Ferguson. Three generations of the ‘School of Science’, need I say more??

Do you have a favourite quote or mantra that you live by?

This is definitely a personal one that just makes me smile (nothing to do with underwriting I might add), but in the voice of Del Trotter ‘He who dares wins Rodney, he who dares wins!’

Looking ahead, what are you most excited about what the future holds in your role?

We have a massive opportunity to raise awareness and drive up standards within this industry and the role Qualitymark will play, along with our partners is key in doing so. We can help installers educate themselves, and in turn their customers, on the importance of having the correct protection in place; giving that extra peace of mind that if something goes wrong, there is support available. We have a massive responsibility here and it’s one that I take very seriously

It is clear to see that Scott’s blend of professional expertise and personal passion makes him an excellent fit for Qualitymark Protection. His vision for the company promises an exciting future to both all employees, Accredited Installers and other stakeholders. We are thrilled to have Scott on board and look forward to how his leadership will shape the next chapter of Qualitymark Protection.
